GOY DECRIES PARLOUS STATE OF SECURITY IN THE COUNTRY

A call has gone out to the Jonathan administration to urgently confront the security challenge facing Nigeria to avert playing into the hands of those who are bent on the disintegration of the country.

Speaking against the backdrop of the incessant bomb attacks, mindless killings and wanton destruction of lives and properties that have seen to Nigeria further sliding down the ladder as a viable place for investment, commerce and tourism, Honourable Gbolahan Yishawu, member representing Eti-Osa Constituency 02 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, called on President Jonathan to rise to the occasion by visiting the states which keep experiencing these incidents, commiserate with the people, address the concerns they may have as a starting point for resolving this lingering issue.

Hon. Yishawu submitted that it is at the moment of crisis that a true and people-oriented leadership comes to its own, as it is able to demonstrate to all and sundry its capacity to resolve crisis and bring its humanitarian disposition to bear on knotty issues.

He posited that it is not enough to simply change the personnel in charge of security, but that it has become incumbent for the Commander-in-chief to take charge, inspire the people to continue to believe in his capacity to protect them while deploying the full apparatus of government to address the situation at hand.

He advised the Jonathan-led government to apply the same gusto which it has deployed towards the Edo Governorship elections to the states where terrorist activities are threatening meaningful livelihood and development. He restated the need for a Constitutional amendment to allow for state policing, in response to the enormous security challenge facing the country.
