‘TAKE CHARGE OF NIGERIA’ – GOY TELLS JONATHAN

Hon. Gbolahan Olusegun Yishawu, member representing Eti-Osa constituency 02 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has decried the seeming confusion at the presidency concerning the best way to tackle insecurity in the country.

Yishawu also tasked Muslim faithfuls in the country to use the opportunity of the current fasting period to pray for God’s intervention in the many challenges that have befallen the country.

The law maker also warned President Jonathan to urgently avert playing into the hands of those who are bent on the disintegration of the country.

Hon. Yishawu who spoke against the backdrop of the incessant bomb attacks, mindless killings, kidnapping and wanton destruction of lives and properties that have seen Nigeria sliding down the ladder as a viable place for investment, commerce and Tourism, said it would be a painful experience for Nigeria to have a President who could not rise up to challenging occasions like these.

He urged President Jonathan to visit the states experiencing serious insecurity, commiserate with the people, and address the concern they may have as a starting point for resolving this crisis.

Hon. Yishawu submitted that it is at the moment of crisis that a true and people –oriented leadership comes to its own as it is able to demonstrate to the people its capacity to resolve such crisis and bring its humanitarian disposition to bear on knotty issues.

He stressed that it was not enough to simply change the personnel in charge of security, but that it has become incumbent on the President, as the commander-in-chief to take charge, inspire the people to continue to believe in his capacity to protect them while deploying the full apparatus of government to address the that it was not enough to simply change the personnel in charge of security, but that it has become incumbent on the President as commander in chief to take charge, inspire the people to continue to believe in his capacity to protect them while deploying the full apparatus of government to address the situation.

To Hon. Yishawu, the meaningless killing of innocent Nigerians, which has been extended to a serving legislator is an abominable act which has gone too far and ought to be condemned by all.

The focus of the PDP administration, he says, should be squarely on the security situation, which has led to the cancellation of scheduled visit to Nigeria by a national football team and the Arsenal football club, within weeks.

He advised the Jonathan-led government to apply the same security strategies he adopted which resulted in the peaceful election held recently in Edo state to crisis prone areas of the country while restating the need for a constitutional amendment to allow for state policing, in response to the enormous security challenge facing the country.
