COVID-19: Lagos Lawmaker Applauds Nurses Contributions

As Nigerians celebrate International Nurses Day, the lawmaker representing Eti-Osa constituency 02 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu has applauded the contributions of nurses in preventing the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

It would be recalled that International Nurses Day annual observance held on May 12 that commemorates the birth in 1820 of Florence Nightingale, the foundational philosopher of modern nursing.

The event, established in 1974 by the International Council of Nurses (ICN), also serves to highlight the important role nurses fulfill in health care.

In celebrating nurses, Yishawu said this day provides the opportunity to mark the contribution of nursing staff and reflect on the vital work they do everyday.

“This year is a very different occasion for International Nurses Day (IND), as nursing staff across the world stand United in responding to the global Covid-19 pandemic. We are truly grateful for all they have been doing”, he said.

The Chairman House Committee on Budget and Economic Planning stressed that nurses and other health professionals have been working assiduously day and night to treat patients of Covid-19 and other related diseases.

Yishawu therefore appealed to Nigerian nurses to continue the good work they are doing, while he offered prayers for them during this pandemic.
