Lawmaker Charges Private Organizations to establish family-friendly workplace policies

A member of Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu representing Eti-Osa constituency 02 has called on private organizations to establish family-friendly workplace policies.

The lawmaker, in a statement made available by his information office said this in commemoration of the 2020 Global day of parents.

He stressed that parents bear the brunt of the present Covid-19 crisis; having to cater for their families welfare, Healthcare and education of their children, combining these with their return to work and running the same schedules they had to handle ever before the global crisis.

He stressed the important role the parents have played in the fight against COVID-19 which almost goes unnoticed in the scheme of things.

“Parenting families bear a huge brunt of the pandemic. As the anchors of the family and foundation of our communities and societies, parents have the responsibility of sheltering their families from harm, caring for out of school children and, at the same time, continuing their work responsibilities. Without support from parents, children’s health, education and emotional well-being is at risk. Let us have family-friendly workplace policies”, said Yishawu.

Yishawu, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Economic Planning and budget, therefore called on government and private organizations to put parents into consideration as they make the new policies that will guide their work spaces going forward.
