Member Representing Eti-Osa Constituency 02, Lagos State House of Assembly
Engineer Gbolahan Olusegun Yishawu, was born at the Lagos Island to late Alhaji Modiyu Liadi Yishawu (First Alhaji of Lagos) and late Alhaja N. A. Yishawu (Nee Nuru-Oniwo) both Lagos indigenes. After years of study at home and abroad, he graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering degree and has since gone on to earn multiple higher degrees, even enrolling at the University of Lagos for a PhD programme in Computer Science.
Having had an enviable professional career across many sectors, Yishawu’s burning passion for impacting lives and influencing positive development in the society led him to re-jig his career path towards education. In this pursuit, GOY dedicated the eleven years of his career to people-empowerment through education and training. It was during the course of this fulfilling career that he responded to the call to make himself available for public service so that the society can benefit more from his rich and wide experience.
GOY, went into politics for the love of the people. He says “the essence of politics, for me is service. The moment it is not about the good of the people and opportunity to positively impact lives, it loses the essence. Public service, for me, is a privilege, one which must only be approached after careful consideration and adequate preparation, with plan in place for improvement in the quantum and quality of what is being done and how it is being done.”
At the 2011 general elections, GOY ran for political office for the first time and won a landslide victory to represent the good people of Eti Osa Constituency 02 at the Lagos House of Assembly.
Founded on the mantra- “People First”, GOY has kept faith with his 3-point agenda to see to the improvement of Education, Healthcare and employment for constituents, faithfully delivering on all of these and even more through an unparalleled commitment to quality representation, proactive and effective legislation and thorough oversight to ensure that in all things done, the people come first and the lives of the people is bettered. It is therefore no surprise that he was re-elected into office for a second term in 2015; and for a third term in 2019; all in swoops of overwhelming victories.
Nine years as representative of the good people of Eti Osa Constituency in the Lagos State House of Assmebly, GOY’s footprints are evident everywhere. From Education to Healthcare, COMMUNITY SERVICE & DEVELOPMENT to YOUTH ENGAGEMENT and sports development, excellent record in LEGISLATION, as well as the empowerment of the people through thoughtfully designed programmes to promote vocational skills development, self-reliance, entrepreneurship and business development, GOY has delivered on all fronts.
A friend of the press, he is ever willing to spare time to attend to the never-ending enquiries from the media. Gbolahan Yishawu has established, beyond doubt, that where the heart of the leader is in the right place, a lot can be done to positively impact the people and make their lives better, without seeking to take credit for it.
