- FREE BUS RIDE TO AND FROM SCHOOLS
The FREE SCHOOL BUS RIDE scheme has no doubt been of tremendous benefit to residents of our constituency. It has been of great assistance to the students and has continued to relieve the parents the additional burden of transportation expenses of their children and wards to and from schools, while also helping to increase school enrolment and attendance. We intend to increase the number of buses in the scheme to enable more students benefit and increase the turnaround time of the buses, so that many more students can get to schools on time within the limited rush-hour window. With this, we will be able to consolidate the gains we have made under this scheme.
- PROVISION OF FREE JAMB AND GCE FORMS FOR OUR STUDENTS
Our programmes in support of the educational pursuit of our children through the provision of JAMB and GCE forms and other items, which has greatly assisted many students in our constituency, will be further strengthened. We do not only provide the forms, we offer them guidance and platform to fill the forms. As a result of our intervention efforts, there has been an increase in the level of performance and successful admission to tertiary institutions. We will be looking at opportunities for improvement and reinforcement of the programme.
- QUARTERLY BOOK READING SESSIONS IN JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Other initiatives to deepen their interest in education, promote Book reading among our children, identify other interests they may have and help them to nurture those skills will be introduced at the early part of their secondary education in the junior schools.
The Book reading sessions will involve the moderation and participation of established Writers, Business/Corporate leaders and Professionals from all walks of life who will read from select books to the students, encourage book reading culture among them and challenge them to improve themselves.
We shall widen the scope of our sports programmes. We have expanded pur Football competitions beyond the Barracks to other communities. The Annual GOY Football Competition that has been going on for many years will continue to be sustained to engender greater camaraderie within the barracks and all the communities. We shall be consolidating on our plans for other sports and recreational activities such as Basketball, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Ayo, Chess, Draught, Track events, etc., with a view to drawing participation not only from the youths (male and female), but the elderly with a view to promoting bonding among all and enhancing family values, in the process of recreation.
