Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu, representing Eti-Osa Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly, has distributed 300 General Certificate Examination (GCE) forms to students in his constituency as part of his ongoing educational support programme.

Speaking during the presentation, Yishawu emphasized that the initiative was aimed at creating opportunities for young people to further their education and improve their prospects. He noted that education remains the foundation for national development, whether formal or informal, stressing that the GCE provides a “second chance” for students who may not have passed their Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations.

“This programme is about giving our youths access to opportunities,” he said. “Even with rising costs due to inflation, we remain committed to supporting them because education and skills are essential for progress in today’s world. Beyond academics, we also run skill acquisition and IT-based training programmes to prepare them for jobs and entrepreneurship.”

The lawmaker explained that through the Gbolahan Yishawu Foundation, youths have also been trained in digital marketing, graphic design, data analytics, and other ICT-driven skills, enabling some beneficiaries to secure employment or transition into new careers.

General Manager of the Lagos State Printing Corporation, Hon. Kolawole Peregrino, commended Yishawu for his consistency in supporting education and youth empowerment, describing him as a model for other lawmakers. “He has upheld the legacy of leadership in Lagos, and we pray others emulate his example,” Peregrino said.

Parents and beneficiaries also expressed gratitude for the gesture. Mr. Famorotimi Rahman, who collected a form for his daughter, described the initiative as a huge relief for families, noting that the current cost of a GCE form, estimated at ₦29,500, is a burden many cannot afford.

One of the beneficiaries, Iyadi Marvelous, thanked the lawmaker for his continuous support, noting that he had also assisted her sister during her WAEC examinations. “If there were more people like him in Nigeria, the country would be a better place,” she said.

Another student, Miss Famoroti Mutmainnah, expressed joy at receiving the free form and encouraged others to seize such opportunities when available. Similarly, Thomas Oyindamola said the gesture was life-changing as her mother could not afford the form on her own.

The initiative, part of Yishawu’s broader focus on health, education, and entrepreneurship, continues his tradition of investing in the future of youths in Eti-Osa constituency.
