January 12, 2023The Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAMN), has honored the National leader of All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu with the ‘Generalissimo of the Environment and a member of Assembly, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu with “Friend of Environment” amongst others.
The Gala and award night tagged,’ ‘Unlocking the Potential in Waste Management Through Circular Economy’ held over the weekend in Lagos.
Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu who is representing Eti-Osa constituency 02 was honored by the AWAMN popularly known as PSP with “Friend of the Environment”. In an interview with newsmen, Yishawu said, “To be singled out as the friend of Environment, I feel very happy especially when it comes to people that keep the environment clean”. The lawmaker, who is Chairman, House Committee on Economic Planning and Budget stressed that the climate change is very important and the State has been contending with solid waste and Lagos is highly polluted and something need to be done about this and that is the next level.
According to him, as a result of this, sea is rising and that is the next level for a smart city Lagos is bound to be.
While advising the Association, Yishawu said, “I thank God for them for their resilience like they mentioned; they might have gone under for the past three years but we thank God. “Now, they are back to the streets to clear waste, there are a bit of backlog I am sure they will work on and they should also upgrade. They should just up their game and make Lagos cleaner.
Earlier, National President, AWAMN, David Oriyomi appreciated the Lagos Assembly Speaker, Obasa, Yishawu and other members of the House for their unwavering support.
He said, “we are to get back on our feet and improve on what we are doing and Governor Babajide is going to work with the banks to assist operators get truck facilities, and operators can pay back gradually”. Other awardess includes: Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, Speaker of Lagos State Assembly, Hon. Mudasiru Obasa and others.
